When I run on the treadmill my legs get tingly and my feet start to go numb?

Every morning I try to run on the treadmill...telling myself I'm going to get some good cardio in. Instead, I'm on there 10 min. and my legs are tingling and feet feel like they are going numb...I start to think my legs might freeze up (they feel like it sometimes) and then I think I might fall off. So, I stop early. I guess I need some different cardio options? Ideas?

  1. you may want to check with a doctor before beginning to do hard-core cardio just in case it's a heart thing. it sounds like you need to go a little slower to start out. your heart doesn't seem to be heating up as fast as you are and your blood isn't pumping fast enough to keep up with you. experts recommend starting out at a walk for 2min then a slow job for 4-5min and then working into your run. set smaller time goals for yourself like 10 and 15 min. try a half hour yogo video before starting... beleive it or not it's GREAT stretching and gets your heart pumping really well.

  2. It could be that your trainers are too tight & are restricting the blood supply in your feet & back up your legs.

You should have a thumb width gap between the ends of your toes & the end of your trainer. They could also be too narrow- Nike & New Balance trainers seem to be slightly wider than others. Also, try not tying them so tight- sounds obvious but it could be the problem!

If you find that none of the above works for you then I suggest talking to your GP as there could be another explanation behind the feelings in your legs.

Good luck & I hope you don't have to stop running!

  3. Lol, yeah. 1st off, don't run on treadmills. Just go out and run outside. If this continues, by bigger shoes or loosen the ones you have.

  4. try stretching before your run.

  5. then stop running
