My pool is now turning green. I heard that running the filter when you put shock in the pool is not really necessary. It is just a way for the companies to get you to buy more. Is that true? I know the directions call for running filter for 4-8 hours after. Please get back to me

  1. You absolutely need to run your system after shocking. You need the circulation to evenly distribute the chlorine around the pool. Also, it will almost instantly kill bacteria and algae which you want to filter out asap. When I shock my clients pools I leave their systems running for 24hrs. I dont know why running your system after shocking would cause you to have to buy more.

  2. For shocking, you SHOULD be running the pump. How do you expect the chlorine to spread through out the pool?
