Hey my father gave me his old mac g4 desktop. I just tried to set it up and i cannot make it work...any advice?? Everything seems to be plugged in and when i press the on button it lights up like its about to start but then it doesnt. as soon as i let go of the button the light goes away...is the light supposed to stay on? has anyone else had this problem? I have been reading online that there is some way that you can reset the comp....any ideas would be helpful. and the monitor def works. THANKS!!!

  1. If you can, open the cd drive and insert the system cd/dvd.  Then upon startup hold down the "C" key and it should boot to the cd install disk.  other possibility is that your brightness is set all the way down.

  2. Do you hear anything when you turn it in?  You'll either hear the old familiar Mac tone, OR if you have bad memory you will hear a solid beep for like 1 second or so.  I have 3 Macs, and I bought some memory for them, and put it in, and tried to turn the computer on but it wouldn't come on- instead I heard just a solid beep when I was supposed to hear the startup sound.  No screen.  Removed memory, put old memory back in, worked fine.
