When I try recording audio on my computer the settings keep switching the sound off. What is going on?

  1. If you are using the built in windows recorder there is a time limit on how long it will record. Try this application http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ it is free and will allow you to record as long as you want.  


  2. Sorry, but we need a little more information...  What operating system are you using? What program are you trying to record in?  Does the sound "switch off" in the actual program you are using, or the computer’s main sound controls (the speaker icon in the task bar of a Windows machine or the System Preferences of a Mac)?

    My first guess would be that there might be a driver error with something you are using to record with (Microphone, electric instrument).  Make sure all your drivers are updated.  I usually do that by just using a search engine to find the manufacturer’s website, then look for "downloads".
