Question:

When I try to fall asleep, I wake suddenly and I'm very afraid...?

This has happened only a few times. I remember once a plane and a few times in a car ride. It might have happened some other times, but I can't remember.

I try to fall asleep, and when I'm more than half asleep, without warning I just wake up and I feel all panicky. Or afraid. The closest I can describe it is that it feels like I'm having a spazz attack. But it only lasts barely a second.

Please help me. Is this normal?

  1. This isn't unheard of. It happens to me too, more so when I'm under a lot of stress. If this has happened only a few times, take it in stride. If it's affecting your ability to sleep almost every night and inhibits your ability to function, then get evaluated by a doctor.

  2. ehhh. this might be normal. just talk to your mom about it and i think she will probably help you.

  3. sounds like a panic attack, I have them and they are really scarey.  Sometimes if you have sleep apnea it can bring these attacks on .

  4. have you been to see a doctor about this problem maybe they have some kind of explanation about it

  5. i do this to when im half asleep ill be dreaming and in my dream ill like fall or something then since im only half asleep ill wake up and be all panicky and stuff

  6. It could be that your body is not o.k with sleeping in cars/planes/trains/anything that moves. or you could be having a mini panick attack. my brother had really bad ones. very scary.

  7. happens to me too i think. maybe your mind isn't really "there" when your sleeping so when you wake up theres a whole world around you and you feel lost for a second and that you need to catch up on what's going on around you
