  1. My guess is your trying to open a MSoffice 07 document but you only have MSoffice 03 you can download the converter for free from here

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

  2. What extension is the file type?

and try opening it in notepad

  3. hi ms works does not offer full compatability to many other formats, try using word pad instead, better to get office XP or 2003 as its cheap as chips on eBay now

  4. Try open office, it generally has fewer problems.

WPS is Microsoft's way of causing you problems. Microsoft do this to try to force everyone to use the same software set up the same way (it's easier for hackers and virus writers that way)

You really should get away from it. If you install Open Office, you'll be able to open just about any kind of regular format. You should blame yourself, or the person who made you use 'microsoft works'. It was a failure, and it is not updated or supported any more.

If you want it all for free, then download a liveCD from ubuntu and use that - all the office software and a ton of other stuff, and it is free (FREE means it belongs to everybody and nobody, not that you don't pay for it - there's a big difference).
