Question:

When I try to upconvert my DVDs, all the image does is get bigger, not clearer. What's wrong?

Just bought a Toshiba Dr400 DVD recorder with upconvering. I am using it on a Vizio 32" HDTV with an HDMI cable. when I press the "HDMI" button all it does is make the image larger. What am I doing wrong?

  1. Check the settings on your TV and set it to accept the HD signal.

    At present it seems that your upconverted signal is providing more pixels than your monitor can handle and so it's just showing you a part of the signal (according to its own present resolution) and it's appearing as a larger image.

    If you are loosing information on sides, it's better to deal with the settings on your TV. If this larger view is just a large view of your normal view (and you are not loosing anything on the sides) and earlier you were seeing it with black bars around the screen, then leave it as it is.
