When I turn my faucet on, water leaks out at the base. Anyone know what could be the problem?

When I turn the k***s off, the leaking stops.

  1. a lot of things can cause this.  

    generally the spout or the stems can be leaking water into the faucet "body" and working its way to the base.  check under the cabinet too.   the water may be leaking and causing havoc on the wood.

    if your faucet has a removable spout, it needs to be rebuilt.  while rebuilding, i'd rebuild the stems also.  

    otherwise, just get a new fixture.

  3. yes you need to rebuild your faucet. this will eliminate the leak.

  4. turn the water to the sink off. Unscrew the faucet handle, with pliers, gently unscrew the valve (the part sticking up) there is a small oring on the bottom. Take the whole thing to Lowes, tell them you need a seat seal. Spend the 39 cents, heck, buy two and go home and replace the other one also. Put it all back together, turn the water on. Remove the towel.

  5. If your faucet has separate hot and cold water handles that come to a spongy stop. Either kind of leak is easy to repair...follow the directions
