TV only gives brilliant picture but no sound when freeview box is on - when it is turned off it reverts to analogue fuzzy picture but sound is fine. Definitely not muted - any ideas?

  1. Don't know about your country's freeview boxes but our similar hardware in the US often has volume controls and mute buttons.  Make sure the volume is all the way up (loudest or as needed) and the box is not muted.  Disconnect the box from the power source and leave it unconnected for a minute if necessary.  Then plug it in and go through the settings again.  It could be the processor chip in the box needs to be rebooted.

  2. new Ariel ?,or needs lining up?

  3. Sounds like a loose scart lead to me.

Check at the back of the TV set, and make sure the scart lead from the Freeview box to the TV set is pushed fully into the socket (at both ends).

It's very common for them to creep out under the weight of the cable. They may look like they are inserted properly, but usually they are not fully pushed home.

When the Freeview box is off, you're back to watching snowy analogue TV, because your aerial is not very good. Freeview covers up a multitude of dodgy aerial signals (until it rains heavily or snows that is!).

Check the scart leads are pushed in all the way - almost certain thats the cause of your problem.
