if you have a canon camera you need the MJPEG codec.  there are several good ones, and they all require money.

I just use VLC player, it has all the decoders built in, a great player

also, you can use "SUPER" to convert the video to a different format, like divx or mpeg2.

You need the right codec, search for the video format, and codec.  

there is a video player that plays virtually any format at: http://www.gomlab.com/eng/  -- its free too
