I use the right amount and all. I have air conditioning, too! In spite of this, literally nothing can assuage the spread of the odor. Even when I'm on the opposing end of the house, it is /STRONG/. I tend to get a headache from it, in fact.

Could this be bad to breathe in? Could it be neurotoxic, ie.. killing brain cells?

  1. Sopposedly the chlorine itself doesn't smell.  Have you tryed no bleach in the laundry ? do you have the odor then ?

Chlorine and amonia makes a type of musterd gas and is highly neurotoxic. as with many other chimicals mixed with chlorine.

I have attended pool cleaning classes and they say the chlorine odor is from pee (urine) in the pool mixing with the chlorine and gassing

  2. do u use the one which is in powder form or the liquid form?

if use the liquid it normally contains Cl and ClO, these are all ions

(u don't need this but if u happen to know some chem),

that is there may be Cl2 (chlorine)

which was used in world war to kill ppl!!!

so there maybe chlorine gas coming out.

this is in very very very small amount but extended breathing may cause some problem ( not lethal though)

to prevent this, u can use, the powder form like Nappy san (this is a brand name where i live)

it doesn't contain chlorine based compounds or ions

so doesn't produce such nasty smell

  3. According to true wellness, chlorine bleaches can irritate and burn skin and eyes. Even the fumes from chlorine bleach are irritating to eyes and nose. Bleach is caustic and a neurotoxin.

But what it does not say is in what quantities it is dangerous.

I have asthma and I cannot use bleach at all because it causes me to have an attack.

My advice would be to use less, you really only need a small amount to benefit from the disinfectant properties of bleach. There are products out there that will clean very well and do not use harsh chemical.

Some of the best natural cleansers include white vinegar and lemon juice.

  4. I assume you are referring to chlorine bleach as opposed to the chemical chlorine.  Chlorine gas is toxic and was, in fact, used for this purpose during WWI.  Chlorine is necessary to life, it is a component of sodium chloride aka salt.  The amount of chlorine in bleach is generally safe unless you have an allergy to chlorine.  Remember not to use chlorine in conjunction with acidic products (i.e. vinegar and lemon juice) as this can release chlorine gas.  Although generally considered safe it has been suggested that chlorine bleach can release toxic chemicals into the atmosphere and, in an enclosed area, these could reach hazardous propotions although further research is required on this to my knowledge.  You could switch to an oxygen bleach which is generally in powder form and is found in many detergents advertised as containing bleach.
