When I visit and fill up my car in the USA, can I drink the ethanol gas?

I think i will probably stick with Fosters beer but just asking.

Most commonly you'll find E10 at the gasoline pumps (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline).  If you are lucky, you might find an E85 pump (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline), used for filling flex-fuel vehicles.  E85 has the highest concentration of ethanol used for motor fuel in the US.

Taken from a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) regarding E85 fuel:

Ingestion:  "Liquid ingestion can cause inebriation, headache, incoordination, gastrointestinal pain, nausea, and vomiting leading to central nervous system depression. Aspiration (inadvertent suction) of liquid into the lungs must be avoided as even small quantities in the lungs can produce chemical pneumonitis, pulmonary edema/hemorrhage and even death"

First aid for ingestion:  "If swallowed, do not induce vomiting and do not give liquids. Immediately call a physician"

"This product may contain ethanol or ethyl alcohol at a concentration of >0.1% Intentional abuse, misuse or other massive exposure to ethanol may result in multiple organ damage and/or death. Chronic ingestion of large amounts of ethanol can cause cancer and damage to the liver, kidney, heart, brain, nervous system and stomach. Ethyl alcohol ingestion during pregnancy can adversely affect the unborn child. "

"This product contains benzene at a level of >0.1%. Repeated or prolonged exposure to benzene at concentrations in excess of the TLV may cause serious injury to blood-forming organs. Significant chronic exposure to benzene vapor has been reported to produce various blood disorders ranging from anemia to certain forms of leukemia (cancer) in man."

So, although no one is stopping you from drinking the E85 (so you can physically drink it), you really wouldn't want to do so if you value your health.  Drink at your own risk.

No. E85 is the usual ethanol fuel sold and it is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. That would kill you if you drank it.

There are two tipes of ethanol - Naturated and Denaturated

Naturated one is 197 proof and yes u can drink it

Denaturated is deluted with 1% Gasoline and therefore u cannot drink it

In any case noone sells pure ethanol highest u can find is 85%

I work in the industry and have seen plenty of ethanol, and believe me, even the one u can drink is nasty and i wouldnt recommend it
