When I visited Paris once before, I don't recall seeing anything like what we would call a pub or a tavern...

There were inumerable cafes that served wine, beer and cider, but the people all sat at tables and usually ordered food with their drinks. Is there anything along the lines of a neighbourhood pub in Paris, where people congregate around a bar and drink alcohol without ordering food, per se?

  1. There are so many English and Irish pubs in Paris, you shouldn't have to look too far.  One of my favorites is the James Joyce in the 17th arrondisement, not far from the Arc de Triomphes.

  2. Most people in Paris hang out in the cafes - you don't really have to eat - mainly men have a drink at the bar.  There are wine  bars like L'Ecluse that offer lots of wines, but you can also have a meal.  If you want pubs, you should go to England.

France is different.   Why do you need to have a pub to go to in Paris.
