  4. The Mop Fair comes to Stratford on Avon every year still - as does the Runaway Mop  couple of weeks after.

  5. It must be a regional name for it, where I live we called it the bus station fair, it was held on the site of the old bus and tram garages. It used to come the last week in June and stay for two weeks, these used to be the annual holidays in my town. The fair also returned for Christmas and New Year. See if you remember any of the following.........

    Big Wheel

    Caterpillar

    Waltzer

    Galloping Horses

    Giant Swingboat

    Dodgems

    Moon Rockets

    Cyclone

    Rotor

    Boxing Booth

    Air Rifle Range

    Hoop La

    Coconut Shy

    Roll a Penny

    Penny Arcades

Good memories, thanks for reminding me !

  8. "One of the more wonderful aspects of living in Stratford, and something I’ve been looking forward to for months, is the annual Mop Fair. According to Wikipedia, it’s so named because of its roots as a celebration for workers who would attend carrying items symbolising their trade, and generic servants would carry a mop head."

    Maybe thats why ?
