When I was younger I heard the flower Lady slippers can or will die if touched, is this true?

I know where I am its illegal to pick them but about them dyin if bein touched I was never really sure. The ones that grow around where I live are the ones with a pink slipper (thats what I call it even tho that may be the incorrect term) I use to live in MA now am in CT and have always had Lady Slippers grow near my house.

I've lived where the Lady's Slipper orchid grows, too, and never heard that.... could it be that there's a confusion between this 'lady slipper' and that one below?..  (also wonder if they tell that so that folks WON"T touch/pick them???)
