I am trying to conquer a dreaded flea problem! When I wash my kittens, whether it is with flea shampoo or baby shampoo, the water that I rinse them in looks reddish and parts of their fur too -- but it doesn't look like they are bleeding????? what the heck is going on?

Anyone with flea solutions also, please HELP

  1. It's called "flea dirt." One way to check whether a cat has fleas is let her hang out on a white towel for a while. Then when you see a dark spec(s) on the towel, put a drop of water on it. If it smears red, then she has fleas. The "dirt" is actually the miniature little scabs coming off from when the fleas bite the cats.

PS- Try Frontline or Revolution. Make sure you vaccuum your house to help get rid of the fleas.

  2. Next time take them out before the spin cycle.

  3. its flea poo.. its from the blood they suck from your kitty.

Get a flea comb and start combing. If you catch one, put it in to a glass of warm soapy water. It's a pain to do but at least you'll get the little buggers

  4. first, breathe!  I have been there.  Use gauze pads dipped in rubbing alcohol. This will kill them instantly.  Then you should wash them.  Use kitty shampoo but use baby shampoo on their faces.  Dawn detergent also works well to kill fleas, no kiding!  Do this weekly, and over the colder months, fog your house to kill any that might be there.  Save a little money each week until u have enough to get the medication needed before the warmer months.  Ask your vet too, there is a shot that will get rid of them instantly, AND you can buy a large Spray bottle of Advantage from your vet.  Its about 50 bucks but will last all year for many animals.  Good luck
