When I went to the US I was told about a book "French women don't get fat" ?

I'm a man and I'm French.

I was just wondering about if it came to be a best seller.

And why ????????????????

French women are pretty, sure. But I cannot say that every French lady is "not fat" !! And as far as I know it, does the author know what she is talking about?

The book generated a little buzz that is about it.  Nobody really belives that there are no fat French women.

The author was pointing out the French paradox, that is, the fact that despite French cusine being high in fat, particularly saturated fat French people on average tend to be less fat and have fewer health problems related to diet than the average American who eats a lot of fast food.  Reshearch has shown that eating slower  accompained by wine is healthier and less likely to lead to overeating than the American high fat low taste diet.  No real surprise there.

The author of the book is an executive at Veuve Cliquot.  It's really a book about how she and many other French women control their weight.  Things like indulge in a few bites of a decadent dessert tonight and compensate with a light meal tomorrow.  It was interesting.

I once heard this author being interviewed on the radio and she was explaining that Frenchwomen do not put on weight in the way in which many of their neighbours do and she ascribed this to the French diet.  I can tell you that when people from my university class went to France for a year, it was anticipated that they would lose weight and indeed they did. The change from the British to the French diet had that effect upon us.  This woman had the reverse experience of going to the USA and returning fat. I think that she has a point. It is true that while you will see Frenchwomen who are plump, you will seldom see Frenchwomen who are obese.
