Hmm, let's see... Eisenhower ok's CIA Operation Ajax in 1953 to oust democratically elected Mohammed Mossadegh and installs pet dictator. USS Vincennes shoots down IranAir airbus in 1988 over Iranian waters, killing 270 people. Carter & Reagan both approve the sale of chemical weapons to Iraq during their terms, which are used during the Iran-Iraq War (mustard gas & tabun nerve gas).

Can you imagine what the USA's reaction would have been had these actions been reversed? It's no wonder the Iranians fear and loathe US foreign policy, they know only too well how much Bush and his cohorts covet Iranian oil.

More a difference between profit and politics I would say, ideology and money make for strange bedfellows, with Iran getting ready to increase output of oil old differences can soon be sidelined.

I would take the view that this  ... may ... be the start of a new era in relations between Iran and the west. Well let us hope so.

I am sure that you are aware that Israel are coming to the end of their fallow year (7th year) during which time they import most of the food that they consume, the Israeli's have been importing food from countries such as Egypt & Turkey + Northern Cyprus, all predominantly Muslim countries and not particularly friendly towards Israel.

That story says more about the childish sanctions that America imposes on countries with governments not approved by Washington.  There is no reason for sanctions against Iran, except that the corrupt Shah regime had been removed.  Same in Cuba which does have problems, but is way ahead of America in its health service and response to natural disasters.  But of course the Americans were upset at the removal of the corrupt Batista regime.

were you giving them food along with the munitions back in the 80's so they could fight Iraq? It's funny how thoughts on what is humanitarian can change in time. I don't wonder why some Iranians hate the Americans but don't tar them all with the same brush; most people only want to live peacefully and go about their daily lives.

No  cause Iran is 1 of only 3 countries which owes no money to the west. They don't have privatised central banks ripping off the people like us and they owe nothing to the scandelous IMF or World Bank. By strange coincidence just like the other 'axis of evil' states.
