When Scott Piercy makes a birdie other wins too
Every birdie that is scored on the PGA Tour means something in some way or the other. Scoring more birdies and eagles would mean that a player will shoot low scores, which in return would bring more income and laurels for the players.
However, Scott Piercy does not score birdies only for his personal gains. Piercy and his fellow Vegas golfer Ryan Moore are part of a program called Birdies4Shriners.
In this program, for a birdie or an eagle scored, some amount of money that is collected as a result is donated to the children’s hospital, Shriners Children Hospital.
Both Piercy and Moore have qualified for the Tour Championship, so now they have a chance to shoot more birdies and eagles to raise the money.
The fun part of this program is that fans can also join in by pledging a certain amount of money over every birdie or an eagle that is scored.
"It's definitely nice when I get done with a round to check the card and see my birdies, and know that I am helping others give back to a great cause," says Piercy, a native of Las Vegas. "It's very nice to know that when I do well it means a lot more than
just posting a low score".
This program overall is a joint venture between Shift4 and Justin Timberlake Hospital for Children. Shift4 is the company that sponsors both Moore and Scott.
To this date, this program has raised over $62,000 and Tour Championship is still to come. In the FedEx Cup playoffs alone the two have raised over $11000.
This would be the first time that Scott will be taking part in the Tour Championship. He was ranked 15th coming in to the playoffs but a few poor performances meant that he barely qualified for the Tour Championship.
"After I won and I moved up in the standings I really thought I had a chance at winning the FedEx Cup, but I kind of ran out of gas," said Piercy.
Piercy now has a week’s rest and he feels he is up for the challenge at East Lake.
