  1. Most people were offered the chance to leave, but hardly any took it. The condition of being released was that when you got out you spread propaganda and say that you were treated well. Most Vietnam POW's don't support McCain.

  2. No.  The Code of Conduct would have required that it be the prisoner held the longest.  The offer to release McCain was a PR stunt.

McCain suffered terrible torture and abuse for his refusal to play the game.  (I don't mean the Abu Ghraib type of panties over the head type of "torture" either.)

*******The offer was not insincere.  It was a real offer.  They wanted McCain, the son of an Admiral, to violate The Code of Conduct.  That's why it was a stunt.  McCain was in terrible physical shape and he was being subjected to BRUTAL conditions.  He had to have been incredibly temped to take the offer, say to **** with The Code of Conduct, and go home to get real medical treatment.

  3. No, they should not take the offer.  Honor still means something to some of us, as it clearly does to McCain.

Sad that so many today don't even understand the concept of honor, and such vermin think they have a right to judge a man like McCain on this issue!
