  1. You don't want to spike with a closed fist. You could break a finger or something! You should always snap when your spiking so it will hit the ground faster and the other team will have to dig for the ball. Good Luck with your spiking!! :)

  2. curve

  3. you shouln't do it with a fist.. it might go farther and stuff you think at first, but do it open and you can aim better, and you will just get used to it

  4. When you make a fist with your hand you have a GREAT chance of loosing control of the ball who knows where it will go. Next your "curved hand theory" it is how a lot of people hit the ball I used to be included in that group, but while i was practicing with my college v-ball team a coach told me that you had should be open like there are spaces in between your fingers.

he had me practice hitting like that against the wall then when I got the hang of it I tested it at the net and I have NEVER had that type of control of the ball. Line, sharp angle, cut, 10 ft. line and up I could do it all and the ball went where i wanted it to.

Try hitting this way hopefully you will like it!!!  I DO!

  5. open hand all the way.  it gives you better accuracy and control, and a lot more down force

  6. Open hand!

  7. I wouldn't suggest hitting with a fist, because you don't have as much control on where the ball goes. With an open hand, even if you only get a piece of the ball, it has a greater chance of going in because it's hitting something flat, not rolling or bouncing off a wierd angle on your fist...

  8. You may get a little more power if you hit the spike with your fist.  However, you will not have any control.  If you hit it with the cupped hand, you will put the topspin on the ball to keep the ball in the court.

If you want the ball to go deeper, you need to adjust your point of contact.  You are contacting the ball a little too far in front of your body.  (And I do mean a little if your spike is going in.)  You want to get the contact point SLIGHTLY closer to your head.  That should make it go a little farther in the court.  When you start hitting the back wall, adjust it back in front of you.  Most players have the opposite problem.  They hit the back wall because they hit the ball behind their head or on top of their head.  You have a good problem.  Good luck.

  9. You should never hit with a closed fist. I'm a High school volleyball coach and  the best thing to do is hit with an open hand. If you want it to go down you do need to snap but not only that..practice swinging fast most people think its how hard you hit the ball but its actually how fast your swing is.

  10. Always hit with an open hand. If you want it to go deeper, don't put so much snap on the ball. I have the exact opposite problem.

  11. unless you have amazing control then you don't want to spike with a closed fist... although closed fist gives you more power... but open palm give more control, you just have to hit it harder!!!

  12. open fist

  13. alright...

When you hit with a closed fist, you cant really aim the ball so well. However, you do have a touch more power.

When you hit with a curved hand, you can aim the ball AND get a lot of power. This is a better way to spike.

As for helping your spike, are you having trouble jump spiking or just regular?
