I have a 16, 10, and 7 year old. I am 34 and want opinions on when I should plan for my next child before it's too late ;) What do you consider the average "cut off" for having children???

THANKS EVERYONE

  1. This "cut-off-point" can only be determined by you-- when YOU feel done with having children.

However, also consider the recent problem of earthly over-population. Do you feel that you recycle enough to make up for the extra trash that four children produce? How much waste is there in your home? These things matter just as much. Imagine if each of your children in turn also had four children, you have almost multiplied yourself by sixteen in two generations!

  2. AlwaysST,

I think til 40-42. The eggs get old. Are you sure you want a fourth? God Bless You. I have two grown and I would not want to go again, even if I could.

    Good Luck

  3. I am 33 and will be 34 by the time I have another baby (we plan on trying to conceive in a couple of months yet).    My husband was adamant that i have our children before age 35 (we didn't even meet until I was 29, nearly 30), because of the chromosomal birth defect issue of being older than 35.  However, our first baby had several defects already (none were chromosomally-related, though!) and passed in April, and we would still like to have two more at least, hopefully healthy.  Our new goal is to have them before I am 40, because obviously if defects are going to happen, they will happen.   This should be do-able, I hope.

  4. People are having babies in their 40s and 50s now but that seems a bit too old (in my opinion). Plus, there's a slightly greater risk of your baby having birth defects after you turn 40 something.

I think you should stop by the time you turn 38.

  5. Good on you!  Ignore the people asking if you should be having another one, if you can afford them, and love them, and give them all equal amounts of attention, go for it!  My mother had four kids, and her last was born at the age of 42.  Personally, I wouldn't go over 39.  I've just had my third child, and certainly want another one at some point in the future, but mine are much more closely spaced than yours.  At least you have built in help and baby sitters next time around!

  6. Are you ready for the whole pregnant thing again? I guess now would be a good time. Thirty-five is a good time to stop child bearing but some people have babies into their forties.

You have spaced your children far apart. Are you sure you want another child? Your children are at an age where you can be free to work or go back to school.
