When Traveling can you wrap a gift?

Does anyone know when traveling can you wrap a gift and have it in your carry on bad? Its my bf's b-day and I bought him a $90 watch, he's picking me up from the airport so i wanted to have it wrapped up, Does the airport security let you go through with a gift wrap or you can't wrap anything?

Don't wrap a gift! The security will think your hiding contraband!

No, do not wrap your gift. The TSA will probably unwrap it to make sure it is not a prohibited item.

I would probably pack a small gift bag and tissue paper, and use that instead of traditional wrapping.
