I am concerned that when the day arrives when I no longer want to moderate our totally private group, the postings and email addresses that have been concealed from searches would become public. I don't want this to happen.

  1. That won't happen but you might consider appointing a co-owner.

  2. this answer depends. when people say private, there really is no such term and it confuses a person who answers as to what they mean by this. it seems every one has a different meaning. so, is the group closed membership/ invite only? if it is, it will always be. would you plan to delete the group one day or turn it over to another to moderate it? if so, and it's a closed group, nothing within that group would ever be found within a web search and a new moderator wouldn't be able to change that. if you choose to delete it, of course then it's all gone for members as well.
