  2. B. a spontaneous reaction occurs due to an external voltage. They just said it in a weird way. The reaction proceeds due to a voltage or potential difference in the electrodes. I wouldn't call the voltage external, I would call the circuit that the electrons through external.

    A is wrong because the energy is generated as electrons follow from one substance to the other. If the process was not spontaneous the electrons wouldn't flow.

    C is wrong because the law of conservation of mass states that the total mass of an substance doesn't change in a chemical reaction. Also electrons have such a small mass that they are considered massless for all practicle purposes.

    D is wrong because the emf of the battery decreases as the battery discharges, since the concentration reactants decreases and the products concentrations increases. This reduces the electrode potential or voltage of the cell.

    E is wrong. Both species can not be reduced if you gain electrons form one place they have to be taken from another place.
