  1. easy to check smell the smoke if it smells like oil motor about to go.. if it smells like gas need a tune up ,,, if it smells like anitfrezee blown head gasket

  2. White smoke usually indicates a bad head gasket. Blue is oil and black is carbon.

  3. If the exhaust is blue upon start up only, that indicates valve guide seals are leaking.  If it's showing blue smoke constantly, then there some internal issues.

  4. The smoke you're describing means there is oil being burned. It shows there is a problem or maybe just wear in the top end. You could diagnose it further by asking your mechanic to do a leak down test.

Pressure is fed into a cylinder through the spark plug holes, one at a time, and any pressure leakage from the cylinder is measured.

While the the cylinder is pressurized, the mechanic listens to to determine where the leak is coming from. For example, a leaking exhaust valve will make a hissing noise in the exhaust pipe while a head gasket may cause bubbling in the cooling system.

How well each cylinder holds how much pressure compared to all the other cylinders also says a lot about the engine -- you'd expect them to be the same, but lower readings usually in one or more cylinders mean usually worn valve guides or rings.

    Good luck.

  5. Most likely, the car is burning oil. The way to test for this is to check the oil level. If it's dropping, either the oil is burning or leaking.

As for why the car would burn oil, there are a few reasons. None of them are good. Head gaskets and rings, I'm afraid.
