  1. If it's a kitten, they shouldn't go outside until they have been given all their jabs by a vet as otherwise, they might catch a disease.

However, if the cat shares a close bond to it's owners and has a happy home life, it will almost certainly come back. Some cats like to explore and go a long way from home, whereas others prefer not even to leave the garden.

Cats are very fast learners and it is very difficult for them to get lost, however, if you're worried about this then it is wise to get them a collar with your name and telephone number on it, you could also consider getting your cat micro-chipped, this is a procedure that consists of a tiny chip (the size of a grain of rice) getting inserted underneath the skin, this chip contains all of your contact details and can be easily accessed by a vet if your cat is brought in by a stranger either lost or injured.

  2. We used to let all our cats go outside. (all our cats are altered) But, now we only have the neighborhood cats that we take care of that's outside. We've had two younger cats that have gone outside for the first time and never come back. We put up posters and called the shelter and no one could find them. And two of our older cats that escaped were killed by a fox roaming around here. So, we don't let our cats go outside anymore. Hopefully yours comes back. If he doesn't come back in like three days, you should call your local shelter and put up posters. Good luck.

  3. The odds are VERY likely.  I have four cats, they go in and out and they always come back.  Two of them were inside for years b/4 they went out, two were babies.

  4. With luck he will come home.  But I would suggest that you start looking for him.  Try looking "low" under steps, bushes, tall grass.  And then look up high....a scared cat may be in a tree.  Call his name and wait quietly and listen.  Ask everyone you see if they have seen him and to keep an eye out for him. If it's been more than a few hours, put up posters, contact shelters and put a missing ad in your local paper.

When you do find your boy, please keep him home and inside permanently.  An indoor cat is healthier and happier.  And don't forget to have him neutered.

    Good luck!

  5. Why is he outside - did he escape, or did you let him out? If he has been an indoor cat, then no, he may not come back on his own - you need to go and find him, and bring him back inside.  You'll need to look in the immediate vincinity for the cat, they usually don't wonder off too far.  Microchip the cat in case he gets out again.  Outdoor cats can be poisoned, hit by cars, injured by kids and get fatal diseases by letting them stay outdoors.  This isn't even mentioning fleas and ticks - and other parasites.

  6. Has he been an inside cat his whole life (for over a year)? If so, he may not come back. But generally a cat knows where it's home is and will come back, they are good at finding thier way home.

In a few hours try calling it by it's name, if it is ready he/she will come prancing back.
