When a company does a backround check on you before you are hired, what, exactly, are the looking for?

  1. If you were honest or not about that 'Have you been convicted of a felony?' question.


  2. misdemeanor and felony offenses, mainly ones including lying, cheating or stealing

    if you are applying for a job involving specifics...such as children, then they'll also do an extensive check for any sexual crimes

    any job that requires you to drive, they may look at your traffic offenses such as speeding, reckless driving, etc. Usually that's done through your dmv.

  3. Basically anything you may be lying about on your application.  They won't bother paying the money to do the check unless they are going to hire you according to the info on your application.
