  1. They do not, they do it to honor their own.   There is a kinship in fireman, soldiers and any other emergency workers that those outside the field would not understand.   When a fellow fireman dies they have lost a member of their family.

  2. Who cares?

  3. Depends on how the local fire department is set up in your area. They send what is called and Honor Gaurd or Flag Team out of respect and the number of those to attend is different everywhere.

Who pays for it? We all do. Tax dollars that go to the fire dept anyway (they have a budget for it), donations, fundraising, fire dept union dues.

  4. They pay their own way or the community raises money for them to go.

    Not tax money

  5. It's my belief the are going on their own dime.

They are FIREMEN.... they do what they do because they are special people who will risk it all for people they don't even know.

  6.   Many of the Firefighters who attend the funerals are volunteers and along with the paid firefighters they pay their own way.  Why did you ask?.
