When a fly?

When a fly is trapped inside your car, and your car is traveling at the speed of say 70-85 on the interstate. Does that mean the fly is flying forward in your car at that same speed. Why do they never hit the rear window? Just a thought

This is a simple physics question.  His speed, in relation to the earth is the car's speed plus his speed in relation to the car.  If there was not an enclosed environment, or he was moving in relation to the earth, he would hit the back window.  He does not have to fly at that speed to stay in your car because he's already in it.  You don't have to move your arm at 86 miles an hour to reach your turn signal.

  9. the air within the car it seperate from the air passing your car's exterior. why arent you smashing the back of your car if your going that fast.

  12. The air mass inside your car is also moving at the same speed as the car. The fly is flying relative to this air, so why should he bang into the window?  In the same way, the earth on which you stand is spinning, but the atmosphere spins with it otherwise you'd feel quite a draft!

  15. i dont know........science and physics and stuff arent my forte. i would say because of different air pressures. i would compare it to walking to the back of a bus while it is moving forward. you arent walking at like fifty miles per hour, just normal walking speed.
