  1. farrier knows how to communicate with the horses and also the horse probably hasn't had a shocking experience with a farrier, keep this farrier though

  2. it basically means that the horse will stand still and allow the farier to pick up it's feet and trim and shoe the horse without kicking or injuring the farier. It's very important to teach a horse to stand while it's feet are being attended to.

  3. Hello,

I agree with the first answer!  The term "stands for the farrier" is a common question and comment about horses that are for sale.

It means the horse is behaved and knows how to "work" with the farrier.  Lift its feet, not pull away, fuss or kick...but is easy for the farrier to shoe or trim.

GOOD question and a GREAT thing for a horse to do!

  4. When it says that a horse will stand for the farrier it means that it is not a performance to get that animal trimmed or shod. Usually they learn this at an early age and many will doze while the farrier is working - this makes his work easier so he will be happier to keep you as a customer.

  5. It means that when he is either being trimmed or having shoes put on him...his temperment is agreable, and is well-behaved. VERY IMPORTANT in a horse...unless you want your farrier to want to kill your horse.

  6. When it is used accurately, it means that the horse will quietly stand for farrier work, not lean on the farrier, will easily pick up it's feet,  and not require an assistant to handle the horse.  Unfortunately, you can't always count on it meaning that when it's used in ads to sell horses.

  7. Mostly just means that when the farrier picks up the horses foot he doesn't try to walk off, pull back, or take the foot back. Also that the horse doesn't get excited when the farrier uses the nippers, rasp or hammer.

  8. if you mean like when horses are put up for sale and there ad says "stands (well) for farrier" it means when they get their hooves trimmed by their farrier that they arent prancing around refusing to be still and patient. Its alot easier on the farriers and in some cases, farriers charge more for horses that refuse to stand still.

  9. It means the farrier knows how to handle this horse.  Do you?
