When a hot air ballon lands,where do they land ?

you cant control where a hot air ballon is to land,what if they land in the middle of some farmers crop ?

Who said you can't control where it lands? If you can't, you shouldn't be flying in it....LOL!

In the UK it's normal practice for the balloon pilot to carry a bottle of Champagne to compensate the farmer for any inconvenience caused.

You can control where you land, within obvious limits. The balloonists I know carry maps with "red zones" marked. These are areas where they are not appreciated. These have been determined over the years through trial and error -- being met by laughing kids and people with camcorders is good; being met by an old guy with a shotgun is bad. They usually carry a gift for the landowner. Locally they do things like give away expensive TVs (you get a raffle ticket from the pilot when he lands in your field).

Sometimes they do have to pay for damaged crops. But usually you can choose to land in a pasture where not much damage occurs.

Then I guess he "bought the field!"  Lol.  I saw one land in a grocery store parking lot once, but I'm sure they try to pick empty fields most of the time.  That's why you don't often see them over cities, just in rural areas.  They are also difficult to fly in class B airspace, so they tend to avoid large airports.

A good pilot always chooses potential landing sites as the flight progresses. Only if weather gets dicey (always check Flight Service) do pilots need to take the risk of hurting crops.

In general ballooning weather, experienced pilots can land with amazing accuracy.

I never gave away lotto tickets or TV's. Lots of champagne, and lots of free tether rides to smiling kids in pajamas. And even moms in pajamas!
