I know that a woman who marries a duke naturally becomes a duchess, however I have heard that this does not necessarilly apply the other way around?

  1. A duchess is only ever a wife (or ex-wife) of a Duke. A duchess never holds a title on her own account. If she is a duchess through a previous marriage e.g. Sarah, Duchess of York, she would lose that title upon re-marriage

  2. untitled or known as 'boy-toy'

  3. The title Duchess can only ever be held by a woman marrying a Duke so you cannot obtain the title otherwise!

  4. He remains untitled if he has none and keeps any of his titles if he has them. An untitled commoner remains "Mr.--" A lower-ranked aristocrat like an earl would keep his title.

  5. it does.he would gain her title.

  6. He wouldn't get a title his wife would remain Duchess and the Title would then pass down to their eldest son.

  7. A duke passes his title on to his eldest son.  You become a duchess by marrying a duke, you don't inherit the title.

And if for some reason, you did inherit the title as a woman, I don't think it would work that way, because if a man marries a queen he does not become king.
