I was wondering what happens with the gold medal when they discover that an athlete was on steroids or did something illegal? does it goes to the runner up of the race?

  1. regarding the wrestler who had his medal revoked, Apparently that medal wont go to anyone else

  2. no they get ready and line up 4 who won the bronze the silver and the goldthen they go up the stairs that looks like one.

  3. It depends on the circumstances.  Usually if a medalist was disqualified for a competition related incident, then everyone moves up a spot.  If an athlete was disqualified for their behavior (like the Swedish wrestler who threw his medal down on the mat) then the medal is simply vacated and nobody is elevated.

  4. It considers the sport where the disqualification has occurred and also if the games has closed or not.  The rules are different between the sports federations for each Olympic event.

In some case, the disqualified person surrenders their medal and that is that.  Other times, all the medals are "passed down" to the next best in the event.  In this case a silver medal winner, get the gold and 4th place would get a bronze.

There are stories of Olympians being chased down in the Olympic Village and in a very quick ceremony, they get there new medal.

  5. I saw this happen in the Men's 200 meter race. The 2 guys that stepped on the line didn't mean to but they were disqualified and lost their medals.

  6. Yes, you are correct.  At some point the next in line would receive the medal of the person disqualified.

  7. sure does!

In the race where Bolt got the World record, the 2nd & 3rd place finishers were disqualified for stepping on the line. #4 got the silver medal and #5 got the bronze. (I think it was the 200M, don't remember the names)

  8. yup and so on for the bronze and silver

  9. I would assume so. When someone stepped on the line in track the next runner up got the medal.
