When a person farts in public what is the appropriate verbal response?

Pretend it's like saying God bless you when someone sneezes. What should you say? Anything's gotta be better than sitting in the warm silence suffering under the odor right? Then again, maybe you don't want to open you mouth...

Would it be different for women than for a man?

excuse me  is  appropriate  for  all social  faux pas that  you  commit yourself

but  it  is  bad  form  to call someone  out  in  public  however heinous  

there is  no  equivalent  of  bless you  for  gas  at  either  end.  it  is  up to  the  individual passing  it  to  excuse  themselves.

.... leaving the room... points the finger at urself... and trust me women have the same problem as men do... but we say awful things instead as nice ones to the person who lets it out in public or even at home... we make sure we identify them first before we point...lol
