When a person is drunk and needs to get sober, why is it a good idea to drink coffee?

when someone is drunk, ive seen in pop culture a lot that someone will encourage them to drink coffee

does this help them become sober faster?

Caffeine is a stimulant, so people think it will sober them up quicker.  However this is a mistake and all it makes you is wide awake drunk.  The only thing that will sober you up is time.
