Do you think they tell that to ALL their students for encouragement, and learned that technique in the psychology class they have to take in college, or do you think they really mean it?

Please state your age, and what kind of teacher said that to you.

  1. im 22 yrs old, and i can tell you that teachers want you to do well, but they arent a bunch of liars sitting around plotting against you. Have a little faith that your teacher actually tells the truth. my freshman year of high school my geometry teacher told me i could get straights As becasu he thought i was smart, and guess what? I did thanks to his encouragment.

  2. Sorry, no teacher ever said that to me.

Frankly, looking back, if one had ever said that I would have thought they were coming on to me.  And my Dad would certainly have thought that, suspicious old devil that he was.

(Now I'm much older, I would probably agree he was often right about these things.)

  3. I'm 15, and teachers always say that to me...You see, teachers will give encouragement...but to their special, gifted students they'll definitely give a comment like you got!  You can kind of tell if a teacher is being truthful...or condescending!

  4. It depends on your teacher's personality. You should know if your teacher say such things to other studants(who do not seem to be talented) too.1 time my physics teacher had told another teacher such thing about me or many pepole tell me that I am very sharp. There is no need for telling a lie.I think your teacher is right and you r talented.I am 18.   :-)

  5. I'm a teacher and I would never say something like that to a student unless I really meant it and would follow up on it.  I have actually recommended students to the gifted and talented program, so, unless I can follow through on what I say, I don't say it.

I would be more likely to say something like "You are doing very well," or "You have improved and can play that much better than you did yesterday," for encouragement.

  6. It is impossible to answer this question without more facts!

Maybe you really are gifted, surely you know if you are better that the average student?  Part of growing up is the ability to be able to look at the wider picture and make your own judgements?

Of course teachers encourage their students if they are any good.

    I am 62.
