When a sent message's status is read what does that mean?

On myspace when you look at your "sent" messages and the status says read does that mean that the person you sent it to has read it?

ok, when you send a message

Sent: means that you sent the message and they didnt open it

Read: means they opened the message and read it

Replied: means they opened it, read it, and sent you a message back
