  1. Cubanchango has a nice answer! Put some water in your sink. Pull the plug. Show your six-years-old the water draining like a tiny maelstrom, put the plug again and everything becomes quiet. The maelstrom is gone nowhere, it just stopped working.

PS: Incidentally, Maelstrom is the name of a place in my country, Norway, that was made famous by Edgar Allan Poe.

  2. As it runs out of energy, it dissipates into the atmosphere.

  3. It fizzles away or disappears...like water going down a drain

  4. it's like a top; it loses power and calms down.

  5. Back to h**l where it belongs!

  6. the tornado dissipates or runs out of energy so it just disappears

  7. Down the toilet I think.  Or would that be a whirlpool...?

Good question.  It just fizzles out.

  8. The tornado runs out of moisture/energy to keep it's destructive path. So, it disipates into the clouds.
