does that mean he likes you (maybe thinks you're attractive) or wanted a bigger tip? Two of my friends and I went to a restaurant last night and the waiter told us he wasn't going to charge us for our drinks. My friend and I got refills and they cost extra so he took about $12 off our bill. Was that because he liked us for some reason or because he wanted us to give him a larger tip? That's a considerable amount to take off a bill so I was just wondering so I know next time what to do.

  1. A little of both.  I'm sure he wouldn't do it for customers he hated.  It probably wasn't anything like he was trying to pick you up or score your number.  I'm sure he was hoping that you would reciprocate his generosity with a larger tip.  You DEFINITELY should have tipped 18-20% of what the full bill would have been.  He shouldn't receive less money for being nice.  Leaving an extra couple of bucks would be very nice, but not necessarily required.

  2. If the restaurant is properly run it means the management oked the free drinks .   Normally waiters are responsible for making sure the bill is correct  but the management may review the bills and ask questions if there is something wrong .

    Drinks are often a high profit item depending on what they were . So losing the price of the drinks may not cost the restaurant a lot , but may lose them a significant profit .

    Dont offer a bigger tip . I would actually suggest you speak to the hostess or head-waiter about it if you go regularly.

    If your waiter did it to impress women then hes going to get fired .    :)

  3. he was probabyly in a good mood

  4. Was the place overly expensive to start with may just be a way to keep customers returning.

  5. So, did you leave a bigger tip?

  6. Well, he wouldn't give a $12 freebie to people he dislikes. It doesn't necessarily mean he is romantically attracted to you, but he certainly doesn't think poorly of you. It was a nice thing to do, and you don't have to be 'into' a person to do something nice. As to the tip, it's your choice, but if you can afford it, the politic thing to do would be to give a tip that is the percentage of the full meal. Like if he saved you $5 and your meal was $15 instead of $20, give him 15-20% of $20 instead of $15. Some people give a 10%, which is a matter of opinion, but I'd go with 15%, more if money isn't a problem at the moment. Next time if he does the same just add about $1-2 to the tip. And do a couple of drinks really cost $12? I hate inflation.

  7. bigger tip

  8. he probably just wanted to be nice

  9. NO IT DOESNT MEAN THAT HE LIKES YOU...

    IT MEANS THAT HE HATES YOU!!!

    DUH!!=}

  10. Could be that he liked you, could be that he just was trying to be friendly.. A friend of mine used to work in a restaurant and he'd take a little off of random peoples bills just because he felt the restaurant over charged.

  11. turn the bum in. his boss pays all the expenses to run the bussiness.and he wants to make more than the boss.and he made a thief of you.go back. talk to the manager.tell him what happened.that you are sorry. pay what you owe.you would have corrected a wrong. and did the right thing.and you will again have respect for your self. and the owner will respect you.P.S. he dont like you. he only likes himself at the expence of others.go get em.you will find what i recomend hard to do.it will be a big step in your life.and continue to step in the right direction.you didnt say how old you were.if your young. tell one of your dads. he will help you resolve it.that waiter is a bum.

  12. He may have liked you or he may have thought you'd be inclined to give him a bigger tip if he did this sneaky thing. Whatever the reason, there is no doubt that he absolutely wanted the big tip.
