I don't see that this article is about biodiesel specifically, but I may have scanned too fast.  I think political thinking on the subject of biofuels and energy conservation in general is finally starting to mature a little.  It's very likely that the aggressive subsidies for biofuel agriculture from the EU and USA will be cut back this year.  They were probably ill-advised to begin with.  I think they were in too big a hurry, and just wanted to get something into place quickly.  I think it is more true of ethanol (which is also most common) than biodiesel.  The farmers don't seem to think biofuel agriculture plays as big a role in the food shortages as the journalists do.  Still, I think the EU and the US sponsoring these programs is waking up to the fact that they have never subsidized food production in these nations in the way they have biofuel production, and they have never subsidized modernizing the stone age agricultural methods used in many of these countries.  In actuality, they have traditionally sold their surpluses or grain bought on the international market in these countries at below cost to prevent local agriculture from being able to compete.

A couple weeks ago I got stuck behind a poorly tuned biodiesel Mercedes.  Slow son of a bi_ch on a fast and busy road.

Smokey, old, stale, fry oil stench coming out of it's pipe that took a couple days to get out of my car and I smoke in there.  It was BAD!

Jerk also had a hollyier than thou attitude. The U.S. won't in the long haul, just the counties north of San Francisco.  

The rest of us will go with hydrogen power after we finish fighting over the oil countries with China.
