When am I permitted to wear my Navy uniform?

Question

When I am on leave can I wear my Navy uniform whenever I want to or am I only supposed to wear it when on duty? Is it true that anytime I fly or travel I have to wear my uniform? Do they issue me all of my uniforms right after boot camp? What is the most common uniform I would wear in the Navy?

when u fly u do not have to wear the uniform. and when u are on leave u do not wear the uniform unles u r going to be a public speaker or in aspcail fuction.and yes u get all the uniforms after boot camp

I'm assuming you are not actually in the Navy since they would have told you the answer to those questions in Basic Training :-)

To give a short and sweet answer, when you are on leave you wear your civilian clothes. You may wear your uniform if you wish. There are certain "working" uniforms that are not authorized for wear outside the base but for the most part you can wear most uniforms anytime you want. The Navy changes from "whites" in the summer, to "blues" in the winter. There are other details such as the wearing of flight suits etc. but that gets pretty entailed.

  The Navy generally requires it's sailors that are traveling from Basic Training to wear their dress blue uniform but after that you wear your civviess" (civilian clothes). Again, the dress blue uniform or "cracker jack" as it is affectionately called is authorized to wear anytime, year 'round.

Yes all uniforms are issued during basic training.

it is actually encouraged that you do NOT wear the uniform while flying.  Paints a big target on your back.

Off base.. there are certain places uniforrms may be worn..and depending on the uniform.. not worn at all off base.

the dungarees, for instance, may only be to and from home and the day care center.  they are NOT authorized anywhere else off base.

Formal occasions such as Church, weddings, Funerals, etc you may wear the current season's Dress Uniform.  I don't suggest wearing it to the game unless there is a big tribute going on..Or it's the First Saturday in December.

You will be given all these answers and any more you may have during or just after boot camp.  And they will remind you constantly.  However if you cannot wait:  You can wear a working (seasonal) uniform at almost any time and place.  But you will rarely be required to.  You have a very limited number of places you can wear utilities off base (getting gas or picking up kids from daycare)  Many Sailors right after boot camp have only their uniform they graduated in and (a seabag filled with the rest of their belongings) and so wear that uniform to travel to their "A" school.  Some are told to report to their first command in their Dress Blues or Whites and so they fly in them.  Some wear them to look cool.  I don't recommend that.  ;/

YOU REALLY NEED TO POINT OUT THAT YOU ARE A BOOT WHEN ASKING SILLY QUESTIONS LIKE THIS YOUNG MAN!

I can state with 100% accuracy that the Navy Drill Instrctors will educate you in all the finer points of being a Sailor. You will learn what time of year, what climate, what the Commands tells you you will wear, there are rules, you will learn or you will be very familar with the "front leaning rest". Could be Cracker Jacks could be something else. It will not be the duty uniform. You will not wander the town looking like you are part of the crew of PT73.

you can wear your uniform at any time and you are not required to wear it when you travel.  if you are changing duty stations and going straight to check in you may want to wear your uniform because you must be in uniform when you check into your new duty station.  All your uniforms will be issued while you are in boot camp.  the most common uniform is the working uniform.  they changed uniforms since I got out but it used to be dungarees (denim pants) and shirts.  I think they are going to ACU's like the Arny with the exception of the colors.
