This is my first month on birth control pills. I am taking trycycline-lo and I did the Sunday start. I am almost done the first package (4 pills left) and I just got my period this morning. I am confused because I thought it was supposed to come when I was done the package? Like on Saturday?

So now do I just finish off this package and continue with the next pack like normal?

Thanks :)

  1. Yes, keep taking the pills until the package is done... if you do not it will mess up your cycles even more.

Does your package have 21 pills or 28 pills? If it is a 21 pack then you should finish the package and then your period should start. If it is a 28 day package then the last week is when you are to have a peirod and it usually does not start right away... usually 2or 3 days later.

Sometimes when you are starting birth control it will take a little while (usually three months)  for your body to get use to them. So if it started a little earlier just keep taking the pills as usual. Keep track of all your break through bleeding... (bleeding when you shouldn't be) and then tell your doctor if you have a lot. The pill may not be the right dosage for you and you may be better with a different pill.

Also make sure you start your new package 7 days after you finish the hormone pills even if you are still bleeding as this will help tell your body to stop having its period.

  2. I take YAZ (another birth control pill) and did the 1st Day starter, I start my period after the package is done.  However, my friend did the Sunday start like you and she gets hers after she's done taking her "active pill."

So this could be the reason why you start your period before finishing your package.

And yes, you should continue taking the pills everyday.

  3. hmm . the point isn't to start on a particular day of the week . i was told to start when i got my period [ the green pills .] it didn't regulate right away , but i got my period every month . it was confusing cuz i would get my period AFTER i finished my green pills or halfway through my green pills , but now it's A-Ok !

  4. You're supposed to get your period when you get to the placebos (the green pills), which you take after the white, then blue pills in a full cycle.

You need to take ALL of the pills, and usually when you start out your cycle will be abnormal. For me, when I started taking OTL, I had a menstrual cycle that lasted a month, which doesn't generally happen to other people. After that, everything evened out, and I usually start after taking 2 of the placebos now and have a 5 - 6 day period. c:

So don't worry about it too much: some of us deal with abnormalities when starting out a new BC method.

  5. If you are at all un-certain about what to take, when and how then phone your Doctor rather than rely on answers here.

Ok, someone may give you the right answer but how do you know which one out of them all is right?
