When an egg is cracked open... what is the white stuff near the yolk?

Also, if blood is present, what does this indicate? Are eggs fertilized before hitting the market?

  3. the white fibres which suspend the yolk in the egg white are called chelazae.

  4. I think it's the plasma membrane as it covers the whole egg white.

  5. the little white thing attached to the yoke is the "fetus".  Chickens can lay eggs without having them be fertilized.

  6. The solid white band is called the chalaza. which holds the yolk in the right position within the shell.

    Most commercial eggs are unfertilized and eggs are inspected by "candling", holding them up to a light to examine the inside.

  7. Errrm  Egg White i thought , that what all recipes say

    Blood present means Don't eat it !! the egg was taken a little late and the chick had already started to grown blood cells inside.
