  1. It's not for stupid, ignorant people! It's for fun people who like to have a good time. There's nothing stupid about it. And i don't know where it started, but I think it's pretty funny. I've been to "high class" weddings and they've done it, and I've been to "low class" weddings, and they didn't do it.

  2. I don't think it's a sign of idiocy or stupidity.  Some couples are fun like that, others are not.

As for tradition, don't know where it originated, sorry.

The poster who referred to "high end" vs "low class" has obviously never seen "trash the dress" wedding photography, and it sounds to me like they have some kind of hot poker shoved up their ***.

IMO it's not high class vs. low class, but fun vs. serious.

  3. Don't know but I think it is stupid. How could a groom smash cake on his bride's face after all it took for her to look radiant on her wedding day. I'm sure the tradition was meant for both to take a piece and feed each other as a symbol of how they will take care of each other. But some jackass thought it would be funnier to make a fool of his wife on their wedding day.

  4. dont know, but it is kinda fun. you dont have to be mean about it or even make a huge mess with it.

  5. i would say the feeding each other is a symbol of taking care of each other. sum goofballs smashed cake in each others face and it was a hit.

  6. It is not tradition in my culture. I have never been to a wedding where this was done and it certainly was not done at mine.

  7. I don't know who did it first but it's a really bad way to start a marriage; it's disrespectful and tacky.

  8. Some newly minted husband who was harboring secret hostility toward his new wife thought it would be "funny" to embarrass her in front of all of her loved ones and her new in-laws after she had spent a lifetime dreaming of a perfect wedding and months planning it.  It caught on with other passive-aggressive brides and grooms.  Then it caught on with others who thought that their guests would be amused by their antics (look how quirky and outrageous we are, making a food fight part of a formal occasion!  Look how we don't take ourselves seriously!)  The rest is history.

  9. It's not a tradition, it's just a stupid thing that some people do.

Some people would do the thing where the bride and groom would feed a bite of cake to each other, and chances are it was a drunk/dumb groom who went too far once.... and smashed a chunk in her face.

I've been to over 20 weddings, and never seen this done.

  10. at the second, maybe third wedding in history.

  11. It's only a States thing, in NZ we would NEVER do something like that.
