  1. Join the navy........don't join the army you'll be shish-kebabbed  in Iraq and sent home in a pine box! And all for nothing, pretty much......

There certainly are more honorable wars out there, like Afghanistan etc.

And God Bless all the ones sent to Iraq but really they are like lambs to the slaughter which is sad.....and fighting for something they can "kinda" be proud of, and only due to brainwashing by the Gov.  but I think most of them know whats up here and don't believe it. These are great men and women for sure but their talents are better used elsewhere.

Really what is the point of "reconstructing" in a place where the people don't want the help. You could throw millions and billions of dollars at Iraqi's and they would still want you out. They don't care about having a good country or running water or anything, they sabotage every attempt to help them, so what is the use? You build a water treatment plant or a school and they blow it up 10 days later, what is the use? These people just have different ideology and simply won't allow us to help them.

Let the terrorists live in their corrupt dirty country and reep the benefits of their evil ways.....They'll probably be begging for us to come back when they realize there is nothing there to sustain them except SAND, and lots of it...Oh and Oil, but we're not gonna let them have that, so too bad so sad.

I wish Bush would just send everyone to Afghanistan and get that thing under control. At least Afghans did something to us.

  2. I was drafted into the Army in 1972 . Don't worry, you'll be in shape by the time you leave boot camp.

  3. The first branch I went into was actually to get away from my father whom I obviously didn't get along with. that was the usaf. I went to my recruiters office and took my ASVAB tests, went to MEPPS for my physical and picked a job and left a few days later on my birthday.

The 2nd branch I was in was the usarmy reserves/rotc/rangers, at penn state univ. where I followed the same course of action, recruiter, ASVAB, MEPPS, pick a job. the gulf war started and i switched to active duty, this was thru my own company commander to make the decision to transfer me to active duty in the army. I shipped out a week later for basic, with a fractured wrist and a solid constitution to be the best ever! Ironically, my first day was my birthday! LOL two birthdays in basic how funny. but, that second bday was the best I have ever had in my life! and I was the best soldier to come out of an entire company of men and women in both basic and AIT, I went to my duty station with awards and two honor platoons I had created under my belt. Does this answer your question I wonder? No i wasn't navy but u have to go thru the basics to get to the seals anyway and all brances have the same basics..... recruiter, ASVABS, MEPPS, picking of job, date of leave.....gone to basic training, then your training school or AIT as we call it in the army. then off to your main post. Talk with ur recruiter about seals from day one they will guide u to the right jobs and posts to get the best opportunity to even get chosen, which is difficult to do. well, good luck in your military journey.

  4. I signed the dotted line after I turned 17, and started basic on my 18th birthday. I joined for a lot of reasons... I'm proud of my country and I wanted to serve, I wanted to be a bad-*** just like you (I wasn't quite a navy SEAL, but the 82nd more "high speed" than most conventional units), and of course I needed a way to pay for college :P I'm proud of what I've done, and I'm using the GI Bill to get my education and move ahead.

I would highly recommend you find someone who is a vet, or currently serving, BEFORE you talk to a recruiter. Ask them questions, have them tell you about their daily routines. It's unfortunate, but recruiters are trained to market the military (especially skills that are understaffed) with ferocity and ruthlessness. You want to make sure that the SEALs is what you want to do. If you have an interest in computers or cars or something, you should definitely pick a related job, as they have real-world potential for resumés, should you decide to leave the navy.

  5. I am also a two branch person...I started in the Army and ended up in the Air Force after a break in service.  I am currently a recruiter so I want to complement you on your checking out the military at 14.  I was the same as you.  I knew at 14 that I would join the military.  I came from a military family and I knew that is what I wanted to do.  Which branch to join was a different story.

The Navy's SEALS are a very tough but honorable  choice.  If that is where you want to truly be that you should go for it and start preparing now.  I am not one who tries to force everyone to my branch of the military.  The truth is that we need every branch of the military to be a strong nation.  We need those who are willing to serve in every capacity of every branch.   The military is a choice that you should be comfortable with especially if you want to join the SEALS.  An outfit such as the SEALS take a sense of dedication physical and internal strength that most people don't have.  You need to make sure you are ready to take that step.  There is nothing wrong with preparing now.

If you search the web there are many places that have the physical fitness rigors of the SEALS.  Seek out those places and while you are there learn more about the SEALS, there history, there missions (what has been declassified) and make sure that you are up for the challenge.  If you are the GOOD LUCK!

  6. Wanted to serve, and get an education...  I found a recruiter's office and walked right in.  I signed and leave in Feb...hopefully sooner

  7. I always wanted to be in the military. I walked into a Marine recruiting office and told them that I wanted to join... that simple... my husband did the same thing with the Navy, if you really want to join then do it but you will have to wait until you're 17 (with parental consent) or 18 and then go for it.

  8. 2002 I was sitting in fundamentals of Psychology with my buddy Mark Hunt.  He told me this recruiter talked to him and asked if I wanted to join the Army with him.  Next thing, I took the ASVAB.  I didnt get in regardless of my scores (I wont bring them up) because one of my hands is bad.

  9. Back in the old days, in 1980, there was the oil embargo, high interest rates, inflation and lay-offs. I could leave my union job for 4 years, join the military and come back with 4 more years seniority, guarantee of getting job back. Sounded like a good deal to me! Maybe the economy would improve in 4 years.

So, I joined. I said, give me whatever lets me leave in a week, so I became a Hull Maintenance Technician (welder). I enjoyed it so much, I stayed and retired. They don't pay a lot, but you always get paid!

  10. Enlisted in the Navy in 1957.
