when should i plant garlic (UK) how far apart what type of soil and any other good tips thanks

  1. You can plant garlic near the shortest day (22 Dec in UK), plant the bulbets about 3- 5 inches apart in well draining friable soil, carefully weed when stalks are growing, harvest on or about longest day (22 June in UK) and hang the garlic whole to dry on strings in a dry place.


  2. In September, about 3" apart, any type of soil, preferably not too moisture retentive, and not too acidic. I always plant them on top of a handful of sand to prevent them from getting fungal disease, which is in my soil (peat) I'm organic and have good experience with home made comfrey fertilizer.
