Pomepeii was a Roman city in near the modern day city of Naples, Italy in the region of Campania. It was destroyed on 24 August 70 AD with the eruption of the volcano of Mount Vesuvius completely buried the city in ash and poisoning everyone and everything in its path.

The city was lost for 1,600 years in many metres of ash and was discovered in 1748. This city is a prime example of Ancient Rome since everything was preserved in the ash.
