  1. datsmark came closest so far. still off a little. There was a period during the middle ages where man used feudalism as

    a means of survival. What feudalism is, is when you have one

    person that yo0u answer to, (and yes, after swearing to him, he did own you, and could take your life on a whim.) He in turn

    swore to one above him. The taxation was levied from king,to

    baron to serf. The serf was the one who did all of the menial work, and in time of war, was expected to fill ranks of foot

    soldiers. He was not trained in war, and most of the casualties during that time was serfs. The rest of the time the serf did all of the manual labor. Under feudalism, your lord had the right to tell you who you would marry, what you would do for a living, what you would charge, if you could have permission to even go to another place for a visit. In some places in the world today, this same system is in place, so it has not died out. Islam is an example of religious feudalism
