  1. Well, last week I was hanging out by the pool in my Juicy Couture bikini when who should come sit down next to me but Zac freakin' Effron!  He totally started talking to me and told me that I was gorgeous, and he said he would get his agent to see if I could be in High School Musical 3 with him and he asked me if I could dance.  I told him that I had had 10 years of dance classes...but really I've only had 9.  Oh wait...I'm lying right now.

  2. "C'mon Johnny, tell a lie.  Everyone's doing it, man.  Don't be a square."

  3. Everyone lies to a certain extent to "sound cooler" - it just becomes a term called "impression management", and sometimes it is not even conscious.  For example, the last time I fibbed to maintain my self image was as recent as yesterday, when a prof asked if everyone read an extremely boring academic article for interest.  As a PhD student, there is an expectation of academic curiosity - I said yes, when I really didn't. Inconsequential, but is an honest view that EVERYONE does adjust their self-concept for the sake of others (even Christians ;) ).

  4. All the time. I engaged in this behavior earlier today. Outside of a firm commitment to change (and even that's not enough sometimes), we are all largely ego-driven individuals. We lie to protect an image of our self - to protect us from ego damage/deflation. There are paths that aim to eliminate or really lessen this egocentric way of life. We lie out of fear.

  5. I QUIT LYING SOON AFTER I BECAME A CHRISTIAN AND THAT HAS BEEN MANY, MANY TEARS AGO. I DO NOT BELIEVE I EVER LIED TO SOUND COOL . I HAVE NEVER CONSIDERED MYSELF AS BEING COOL.
